Coaching Philosophy

My philosophy is simple.
Optimize the whole of performance by working with the whole of the person.
Embed the basics, but coach mindset and heartset, as well as the skillset.
Build a love for the game, so players improve and flourish into the best cricketers they can be.
I work with cricketers of all ages, genders and backgrounds.

My Services

I match my approach to what the player or club need.
I am comfortable building programmes for advanced athletes, to deliver the basics to help children develop or build confidence.

• Group Skillset Sessions – club senior, junior or your school team.
• 121 Skillset Sessions for individuals.
• 121 Mindset Sessions for individuals.
• Strength & Conditioning – personal training plans or sessions for groups or individuals
• Game Management Sessions for small groups
• Equipment – I don’t sell cricket gear, but I can provide free of charge advice on what to buy.

About Me

I coach because I love it.
I want my players to learn skills that will improve their game, but also build a passion for it too.
I love the game. There is no better sport to teach you about winning and losing, about resilience and about yourself and your life.
I want to equip my players with a skillset and a mindset for the game, to understand strength and conditioning, as well as nutrition and about how to develop and improve.
Irrespective of age, gender or background, beginner, junior, senior, player, coach, parent, guardian or teacher, if you want to start, to improve or you need support to reach your performance goals, drop me a note for a chat via the form below.

Background

I haven’t always been a cricket coach. I have always been a cricketer ….

I remember my first game. My first ball in fact. Full toss, leg stump and, a nervous 8-year-old, I put my hands through the ball. See ball – hit ball. Miraculously, it sailed over the boundary.

I remember the feel on the bat now. I remember the Umpire’s looking at each other with shock and amusement before signalling a maximum! I remember the cheers from the supporters. I remember how it made me feel – shocked but a little proud.

I never made it as a cricketer. I played county age group, I played for Loughborough University, I played Grade Cricket in Australia and have played league cricket for 30 years. I simply wasn’t good enough, resilient enough and it didn’t mean enough.

After a psychology and sociology degree, I owned and ran businesses, had a successful corporate career – and specialised in building high performance teams off the field. I learnt a huge amount about people, how they work and what makes them tick. I am privileged to have 3 kids of my own to teach me even more every day.

I currently coach at North Leeds CC, New Rover CC, Yorkshire Age Groups and other clubs in Yorkshire. I also offer cricket as sports therapy for children who are managing trauma, offered in association with Anchor Therapy.
